Animal Technician

Mission

The Laboratory of Soft Bioelectronic Interfaces (EPFL) is looking for an animal technician as part of an international project conducted jointly with the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Boston, USA. The project aims to develop and test the effectiveness of a new model of auditory brainstem implant in non-human primates, with the aim of restoring hearing.

The candidate will join a multi-disciplinary team and work close with our colleagues at the University of Fribourg, notably on the coordination of experimental protocols, monitoring animal welfare and acquiring behavioural and physiological data. The position requires excellent mastery of preclinical procedures (ideally in large animal models), as well as a strong commitment to ethical and regulatory standards in animal experimentation.

The employees’ main mission will be to care for the animals and participate in scientific decisions related to the animals.  

 

 

Main responsibilities

  • Planning and conducting in vivo experiments according to established protocols
  • Monitoring animal welfare and implementing good practices
  • Managing animal training for behavioural tasks
  • Active collaboration with international partners (MEEI)
  • Contribution to continuous improvement pf procedures and methodological innovation

Prerequisites

  • Advanced diploma, CFC or equivalent
  • LTK or RESAL module 1 certificate
  • Excellent contact with animals
  • Experience working with laboratory animals (even short)
  • Positive and pro-active attitude
  • Fluency in English
  • Rigour, autonomy and team spirit
