EPFL, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, is one of the most dynamic university campuses in Europe and ranks among the top 20 universities worldwide. The EPFL employs more than 6,500 people supporting the three main missions of the institutions: education, research and innovation. The EPFL campus offers an exceptional working environment at the heart of a community of more than 17,000 people, including over 12,500 students and 4,000 researchers from more than 120 different countries.

Neural Interface Hardware Postdoctoral Position : Electrical and Micro Engineering and Neuro-X, EPFL

Mission

The INL, along with several other Engineering and Neuroscience laboratories of EPFL, form the world-class Neuro-X institute, located at Campus Biotech of EPFL in Geneva.

INL is one of the laboratories of the Electrical Engineering Institute of EPFL, with a tradition of excellence in EE worldwide.

Prof. Shoaran’s group (previously at Cornell), specializes in low-power IC design for brain implants, closed-loop neuromodulation, and AI-enabled brain-machine interfaces.

Our current projects involve new device development for patients with epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, depression, spinal cord injury, and stroke.

Our projects are supported by prestigious grants including an ERC Starting Grant, the US National Institute of Mental Health, the Google AI Faculty Research Award, the Wyss Center’s Lighthouse partnership, the Swiss NSF, and SwissChips Initiative.

Main duties and responsibilities

The candidates are expected to implement novel circuit blocks for next-generation neural interface systems, including low-noise amplifiers and data converters, neurostimulators, power management, wireless power and data telemetry circuits, and machine learning hardware in Cadence.

Applicants with strong background in analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits are encouraged to apply.

Profile

Candidates are expected to have a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with a proven track record of conducting high quality research (at least two papers in Solid-State Circuits Conference/Journals or Biomedical Circuits Journals such as ISSCC, VLSI Symposium, CICC, ESSERC, JSSC, TBioCAS, JETCAS, and TCAS-I/II).

We offer

A fully-funded Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Postdoctoral Position, available immediately.

Outstanding candidates will have the opportunity to collaborate with other teams at EPFL’s Neurotechnology and EE institutes, Wyss Center for Bio and Neuroengineering, and multiple international collaborators.
