EPFL, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, is one of the most dynamic university campuses in Europe and ranks among the top 20 universities worldwide. The EPFL employs more than 6,500 people supporting the three main missions of the institutions: education, research and innovation. The EPFL campus offers an exceptional working environment at the heart of a community of more than 17,000 people, including over 12,500 students and 4,000 researchers from more than 120 different countries.

Bernoulli Instructorship in Computational and Applied Mathematics - Institute of Mathematics

Mission

The Institute of Mathematics at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) invites applications for a full-time Bernoulli Instructorship in Computational and Applied Mathematics.

Bernoulli Instructorships are prestigious postdoctoral research positions hosted within the Institute of Mathematics. They offer complete research autonomy and provide travel support, for a period up to four years, allowing promising early career researchers to launch their independent research career.

Main duties and responsibilities

Bernoulli Instructors are expected to develop and sustain an excellent independent research program. They are welcome to collaborate (and encouraged to interact) with members of the Institute, but they maintain full research independence.

Bernoulli Instructors are expected to teach courses in their broader domain at all levels. The initial teaching load is light, corresponding to half that of regular faculty, and gradually increases to the latter.

Profile

Candidates must hold a PhD in (a field closely related to) applied mathematics by the time of their starting date. Typically, they will have obtained their PhD within the last three years (with exceptions for special circumstances). They show exceptional promise for research, and enthusiasm for high-quality teaching.

Ability to teach in English is required. Ability to teach in French is a plus, but not a prerequisite.

EPFL actively promotes diversity amongst its employees.

We offer

A full-time Bernoulli Instructorship position in computational and applied mathematics.

The initial term of the position is two years, with the possibility of extension for another two years.
