Bernoulli Instructorships in Discrete Mathematics

Mission

The Institute of Mathematics at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) invites applications for two full-time instructorships in Discrete Mathematics.

Profile

Bernoulli Instructors are expected to develop and sustain an excellent independent research program. They are welcome to collaborate and encouraged to interact with members of the Institute, but they maintain full research independence.

 

We are looking in particular for applicants with a strong profile in fields such as combinatorics, graph theory, convex geometry and algorithms.

 

Instructors are expected to teach courses in discrete/algorithmic mathematics. In addition, willingness to teach foundational courses is expected. The initial teaching load is light, corresponding to half the teaching load of regular faculty, and gradually progresses to the latter.

Instructors are expected to be able to teach courses in English or French.

The term of the position is two years, with the possibility of extension for another two years.

EPFL salaries for instructors are highly competitive. In addition, instructors receive a substantial yearly budget for travel expenses and other expenditures.
