Bioengineer in Microphysiological Systems (W/M, 80-100%)

Your mission
The EPFL Bioengineering & Organoids Technology platform (BET platform, https://go.epfl.ch/BET) at the AGORA Cancer Research Center Lausanne, welcomes applications for a position of Bioengineer. |
Main duties and responsibilities include

Provide expertise, training and support to the users of the BET platform in the design, implementation and use of instruments, processes and experimental setups. Train the users towards independent use of selected instruments and processes.

Gain advanced hands-on expertise on the operation of high-end pieces of equipment (e.g. robotized high-content confocal microscope, precision liquid handling automation systems, 3D printers, microfluidics) operated by the platform to support the BET users.

Carry out the necessary technical and R&D work for the execution of services and collaboration projects, for the implementation of existing and for the development of novel assays and technologies, in compliance with good laboratory practices and internal procedures.

Assist the BET platform director in developing novel technologies and services in the area of microphysiological systems, including biomaterials; with the design of experiments; and with the preparation of collaboration research proposal and the supervision of projects.

Assume shared responsibility for organizing and implementing routine lab schedules and procedures.

Participate to the overall development of the BET platform activities, including infrastructure development, communication efforts, IT best-practice effort, team building, etc.

Participate in the management, maintenance and calibration of the instrument park, ordering and monitoring consumable stocks, reagent and inventory, etc., in collaboration with your colleagues
Your profile
-
You have received education and acquired advanced expertise in Bioengineering, Life Science Engineering, Microengineering or equivalent discipline, with a strong interest in cancer biology, immunology and human in vitro models.

You have solid experience in working with cell culture and advance 3D cellular models.

You have experience with at least some of the following: precision liquid handling, microphysiological systems, biomaterials, microfluidics and rapid prototyping.

You have solids skills in confocal microscopy, image analysis, as well as in programming computational pipelines, possibly even with machine/deep learning approaches.

You can rapidly help implement and troubleshoot systems and experiments.

You understand the modus operandi of a scientific platform and you are keen to contribute in supporting the research effort of collaborators and users of the platform.

You are a good listener and you are quick to understand the aims and technicalities of a project and to identify solutions and potential pitfalls.

You can handle multiple projects in parallel and adjust to changing priorities with the help of your supervisor.

You can apply design principles and understand the difference between a proof-of-concept and a functional prototype.

You are methodological in your work, have a good sense of organisation and demonstrate a good ability to report about your progress to your manager and collaborators.
