Biologist / veterinarian
Mission
The CIBM - AIT is recruiting a biologist/veterinarian to work at 100% as technical specialist in the existing team in charge of animal experimentation support for rodent MRI and PET biomedical imaging.

Main duties and responsibilities
- Preparation and review of standard operating procedures with researchers (e.g., anesthesia, analgesia, blood sampling, surgery, preparation for MR and PET scans)
- Perform rodent microsurgery: vein (e.g., mouse and rat tail vein, femoral vein, jugular vein) and artery catheterization, intubation, stereotaxic brain surgery for injection and implants, blood sampling and tissues harvesting.
- Animal preparation, physiology monitoring, longitudinal blood sampling/analysis of rodents during MRI and PET experiments, animal scoring.
- Prescription and monitoring of necessary medications and maintenance of animal health records
- Perform basic MRI, behavioral, PET experiments and sample preparations if requested
- Develop new protocols, preclinical models in close collaboration with researchers based on their needs
- Contributing to the general lab infrastructure: ordering of consumables and animals, organization, maintenance of the equipment in the preparation rooms and animal facility
- Problem identification and solving to increase lab efficiency and animal welfare
- Work closely with researchers in preparing animal licenses and reports; provide technical and scientific support to investigators with animal model selection, study design, protocol development, ethical rules following etc.
- Animal stock follow up (via PyRat)
- Training of new collaborators
Profile
- A Master or PhD degree in Biology or a Federal diploma of veterinary doctor (or recognized in the European Union)
- Working knowledge of laboratory animal husbandry and facilities
- Knowledge of anesthesia/analgesia protocols, action and administration
- Keen sense of observation of the animals and their well-being
- Thoroughness and organizational skills
- Good interpersonal skills and an interest in a variety of activities in a dynamic scientific environment
- Ability to work in a team and also independently
- Good knowledge of oral and written English and French
