Head of IT for the School of Basic Sciences

Mission

As Head of School-IT Services, you will be directly reporting to the Dean of SB. You will work in close collaboration with the stakeholders contributing to the EPFL Information Systems (DSI, Schools IT). You will be in charge of the operations of the SB-IT Services unit, including its budget, team, contracts, service agreements, operations, and investments.

The organization is currently evolving and you will therefore play a key role as change agent to ensure a smooth transition and implementation of our new structure.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Manage IT infrastructures, software application developments and deliver effective and high quality
    hardware and software support services for the employees and students of the SB Faculty.
  • Manage and coach the SB IT unit’s team of approx. 15 people (planning, performance, budget)
  • Responsible for IT security, implementation of rules, baselines, and best practices for the school
    and dependent research centers.
  • Manage requests for new IT needs in research, education or innovation, prioritization of such,
    design, implementation and deployment of solutions that best fit the EPFL ecosystem and our
    user needs.
  • Represent the School in EPFL’s IT transversal coordination structure in close collaboration with the stakeholders in the areas of EPFL global IT strategy, security, cyber resilience, services, collaborative projects and processes.
  • Ensure the proper functioning of operational IT, including continuous improvement of support,
    revision of services through customer satisfaction and metrics
  • Be the back up/reinforcement of the team in case of spikes of activity.

Profile

  • A solid experience of several years in the field of IT management
  • University degree in Information Technologies (Ms, Bs)
  • Excellent leadership skills and proven experience in team management in a matrix environment
  • Strong experience in projects and services management and record of successful delivery
  • Autonomy and team spirit
  • Creative, efficient, highly motivated, self-driven, self-organized, and comfortable in evolving environments
  • Strong understanding of compliance and IT security best practices
  • At ease with continous improvement processes
  • Good knowledge of IT related fields (certifications expected)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and excellent communicator with an ability to manage various stakeholders
  • Fluency in French and English is a must
