IT engineer for EPFL EDA

Your mission

Attached to the Technical Platform in the Faculty of Engineering (STI), you will join the EPFL EDA team. Your role will involve enhancing the IT infrastructure that supports engineers in designing, verifying, and fabricating integrated circuits at EPFL and across Switzerland through the Swisschips initiative.

 

You will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and documenting tools to manage compute resources, storage space, and license servers, utilizing EPFL’s central IT infrastructure.

 

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and continuous evolution of the EPFL EDA infrastructure.
  • Support users of the EPFL EDA infrastructure on IT related topics.
  • Coordinate with EPFL computing platforms (RCP, SCITAS), units local IT and EPFL central IT teams to provide the best possible solutions for EPFL EDA users.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a shared Swiss-wide EDA infrastructure for the participants to the Swisschips initiative
  • Develop scripts to automate the management, monitoring and visualization of compute, storage and license servers for EDA.
  • Documentation on the developments and support users

Your profile

  • Bachelor or master degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

Skills and knowledge: 

  • Familiarity with centralized IT infrastructure and cloud computing.
  • Knowledge of modern operating systems (Linux) their deployment and maintenance.
  • Experience with containerization technologies, such as Apptainers or Docker.
  • Understanding of IT support processes and best practices.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation tasks.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
