The Chair of Operations, Economics and Strategy (OES) at the College of Management of Technology at EPFL invites applications for a full-time PhD student position within the EPFL doctoral school program in Management of Technology (EDMT).

We are offering a challenging full-time PhD student position at the Chair of Operations, Economics and Strategy (OES) at EPFL.

The mission of OES is to conduct world-class research and teaching at the intersection of operations, economics, and strategy, with a focus on organizations and their interactions.

At OES, you will have the opportunity to work on the design, analysis, and implementation of innovative models for decision-making, economics, and operations. Research topics may include optimization, decision-making under uncertainty, market design and pricing, operations research, dynamic systems, and strategy-relevant applications.

Main duties and responsibilities

 

  • Develop and complete an original doctoral dissertation
  • Conduct independent research in close interaction with the Chair and, where appropriate, with external or industry partners
  • Contribute to teaching activities, including co-supervision of student projects
  • Provide limited support for academic and administrative activities of the Chair

Profile

  • An excellent Master’s-level degree in Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field
  • A strong mathematical background, including familiarity with optimization, probability, and the analysis of mathematical models
  • A sincere interest in business-related, economic, and operational problems
  • Proficiency in English
  • Strong motivation for academic research, critical thinking, independence, good self-management skills, and team spirit
  • Interest in a career involving research and teaching is an asset
