Stability analysis on hydro turbine flow
We are offering a challenging position as a full-time (100%) PhD Student at Mechcniacl Engineering department EPFL, Lausanne. Our lab is focused on numerical simulation and stability analysis on rotating flow and fluids dynamics linked to hydropower.
Mission
The mission of the PhD student is to develop and perform stability analysis on the flow around the hydro turbine.
In addition, she/he will participate teaching activity. Presenting the work in international/national level conferences is also part of the mission.
Main duties and responsibilities
As a PhD Student, you will be expected to:
- Have full responsibility for your own dissertation
- Research in close collaboration with industry partners
- Write scientific articles for publication in peer-reviewed journals;
- Present at international conferences.
- Supervise student projects and basic administrative support
More specifically, within this project, you will:
- Work on CFD modeling of turbine flow
- Perform a stability analysis
- Develop and implement advanced numerical methods in-house code
- Possibility on conducting experiments for validation purpose in collaboration with test platform scientists
Profile
- A MSc degree in the fields of Mechanical Engineering/Applied Mathematics
- Turbomachinery and CFD tools
- Programming languages
- Good communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team
- Enthusiasm, scientific curiosity, eager to learn, good organizational skills, rigor in experimental work
