PhD position at Chair of Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy
Mission
The Chair of Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy (STIP lab) at EPFL is offering a 4-year, fully funded Ph.D. position with a start date in September 2026. The STIP lab, led by Professor Gaétan de Rassenfosse (http://www.gder.info), conducts research in the field of innovation policy. The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of Professor de Rassenfosse on projects related to the economics of innovation, STI policy, intellectual property rights, or the science of science. |
Main duties and responsibilities
As a PhD Student, you will be expected to:
- Develop theoretical and empirical economic models at the research frontier.
- Contribute to scientific publications, project reports, and international dissemination activities.
- Have full responsibility for your own Ph.D. dissertation.
- Participate in educational activities at EPFL (e.g., teaching assistant, supervision of student projects).
Profile
- A strong master’s degree (MSc) in economics. Candidates with a quantitative background, such as engineering, computer science, mathematics, or physics, will also be considered.
- Knowledge or a keen interest in the field of the economics of innovation.
- Demonstrated skills in machine learning and artificial intelligence.
- Previous research experience is a plus.
