EPFL, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, is one of the most dynamic university campuses in Europe and ranks among the top 20 universities worldwide. The EPFL employs more than 6,500 people supporting the three main missions of the institutions: education, research and innovation. The EPFL campus offers an exceptional working environment at the heart of a community of more than 18,500 people, including over 14,000 students and 4,000 researchers from more than 120 different countries.

PhD student positions in MRI data acquisition and image reconstruction

Mission

We are offering two positions as a full-time (100%) PhD Student at the School of Engineering at EPFL, Lausanne. Our newly established Laboratory of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Systems and Methods (MRISM) develops novel MRI instrumentation, data acquisition, image reconstruction and signal modelling methods to address technical challenges in modern medical imaging diagnostics and to explore novel research questions in health and disease. The offered PhD positions are part of the establishment of the new MRISM laboratory at EPFL (in addition to the presently offered two PhD student positions at the EPFL School of Engineering, two further PhD student positions are offered at the EPFL School of Basic Sciences).

The first PhD student position focuses on the development of data acquisition and image reconstruction methods for ultra-short echo time magnetic resonance imaging targeting primarily musculoskeletal imaging applications, in close collaboration with local clinical and industry collaborators.

The second PhD student position focuses on the development of data acquisition, image reconstruction methods and signal modelling approaches for diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging targeting primarily diagnostic imaging in body oncology, in close collaboration with local signal processing experts, clinical and industry collaborators.
