PhD student positions in RF/microwave sensors
Mission
We are offering two full-time (100%) PhD student positions at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Lausanne, Switzerland. Our group is focused on the design, fabrication, and characterization of RF/microwave sensors and methods, in particular for spectroscopy, imaging, and magnetometry using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and electron spin resonance (ESR) methods. You will be working on a Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) funded project whose goal is to study, design, characterize, and apply innovative RF/microwave sensors for dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) enhanced NMR spectroscopy and imaging at the nanoliter and subnanoliter volume scale.
Main duties and responsibilities
During your PhD you will be expected to:
- Study, design, implement, and characterize RF/microwave integrated sensors for DNP enhanced NMR spectroscopy and imaging.
- Study, design, implement, and characterize RF/microwave discrete electronics for the characterization of the sensors.
- Study, design, implement, and characterize microfluidic structures realized by high resolution 3D printing techniques.
- Analyze and interpret the obtained results.
- Report the obtained results in scientific articles for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Present the obtained results at international conferences.
- Supervise undergraduate student projects and partecipate to teaching actvities.
Profile
- MSc degree in the fields of Electronics or Physics or Microengineering.
- Experience in integrated circuit design, RF/MW electronics, NMR/ESR spectroscopy is welcome but not necessary.
- Motivation and passion for academic research work.
- Fluency in English.
We offer
- Four years to complete your PhD, with a competitive remuneration.
- An opportunity to develop a scientific career, as entry door for high level careers in both academia and industry.
- A world-class research and training environment with access to state-of-the-art research facilities.
- A multi-cultural and stimulating work environment.
- Term of employment: One year fixed-term contract (CDD), renewable for four years.
Informations
Your application should contain:
- CV (including contact information and complete list of University exams with grades).
- Two references.
Application deadline: The two PhD positions will be filled as soon as suitable candidates will be found.
