Mission

The research focus of the EPFL Laboratory for Bio- and Nano- Instrumentation is centered on advancing the knowledge in the following domains:

  • Nanoscale measurement technologies for applications in nanotechnology, materials science and life science

Main duties and responsibilities

We seek outstanding candidates working in nano characterization instrumentation development with interests in developing next generation scanning ion conductance microscopy instruments and techniques

  • Working and collaborating on research projects. The precise research topic(s) will be discussed with the successful candidate depending on their background, expertise and affinities.
  • Analysis and publication of results
  • Build a strong network in the field of research
  • Participate in education, and PhD and master student supervision
  • Contributing to the labs open science initiatives

 

Profile

  • PhD plus several years of research experience in the development of nano characterization instrumentation
  • Background in scanning probe microscopy
  • Research experience in development of scanning probe microscopy (SPM) instruments in general and scanning ion conductance microscopy (SICM) in particular
  • Strong computational and analytical skills
  • Experimental skills and experience in analyzing scanning ion conductance microscopy images and spectroscopy curves
  • Experience in designing and fabricating electronic circuits
  • Experience in designing and fabricating SPM
  • Experience in programming National Instruments LabView and LabView FPGA
  • Publication record (relative to your career stage) in internationally leading journals
  • Independent, creative, and solution-oriented
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Strong motivation to explore new research domains
  • Good team spirit
