Postdoc Position at EESD Laboratory

Mission

The EU project RENOMIZE aims to leverage know-how and engineering innovations from industry and academia to develop sustainable and efficient building renovation processes. This includes the development of pre-fabricated timber elements for improving building physics and structural performance. As one of 16 consortium members, the EESD group of EPFL will contribute to the design of the panels and their connections through experimental testing. 

To support this effort, we are seeking a postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in structural engineering. Experience in timber engineering and experimental testing is a plus. The initial contract is for one year, with the possibility of extension for an additional year. Starting date: upon mutual agreement but as soon as possible (not later than September 2025).
 

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Experimental and numerical work related to the RENOMIZE research project including analysis and publication of results
  • Participation in all RENOMIZE consortium meetings
  • Participation in education, and PhD and master student supervision

Profile

  • PhD (or nearing completion of) in Structural Engineering
  • Experience in finite element modelling, preferably using OpenSees
  • Research experience in timber engineering and experimental testing is a plus
  • Proficiency in Python or MATLAB for data analysis
  • Commitment to research reproducibility and best practices
  • Publication record (relative to your career stage) in internationally leading journals
  • Independent, creative, and solution-oriented
  • Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken)
  • Good project management skills
  • Good team spirit
