We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join an interdisciplinary project aimed at developing innovative AI methodologies for Multimodal Sentiment Analysis (MSA) to support mental health and well being. The project integrates audio, text, and visual data, collected in collaboration with social scientists as part of a Swiss National Science Foundation Sinergia program. The overarching goal is to design models capable of accurately identifying and predicting human emotional states.

Main duties and responsibilities

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will:

  • Lead the full machine learning research pipeline, from literature review to model development and validation
  • Analyze, interpret, and communicate experimental results
  • Prepare and submit scientific articles to peer reviewed journals
  • Present research findings at international conferences
  • Supervise and collaborate with a junior scientist/developer
  • Mentor EPFL students involved in related projects

Profile

We are looking for a motivated and creative postdoctoral researcher with strong expertise in machine learning model development and a genuine interest in collaborating across disciplines, particularly with social scientists working on societal challenges.
Required qualifications:

  • PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field
  • Experience in machine learning; interest or proficiency in multimodal deep learning
  • Strong problem solving skills, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to think beyond conventional approaches
  • Motivation to explore, implement, and evaluate new AI architectures
  • Commitment to collaborative, interdisciplinary research within an international team
  • Excellent command of English and French, both written and spoken
