Robotics Engineer
Mission
The EPFL LASA Laboratory is seeking a research engineer to work closely with a team of PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. LASA develops AI-based algorithms for safe robot control, with applications spanning athletic movements, from catching flying objects such as tennis rackets to throw-and-flip manoeuvres, fine and dexterous manipulation, handling multiple objects, including deformable items such as vegetables and fruits, and designing new robot hands beyond human dexterity, including novel designs such as the crawling hand.
Main duties and responsibilities
You will work across multiple teams, developing and maintaining software frameworks for robotic control and machine learning, implement experimental validation with lab researchers, conduct systematic robotic evaluation and design new hardware (sensor choice and integration, robotic construction from electronic boards to mechanical design), make demonstrations to lab visitors and at external events.
Profile
- Completed Masters or PhD in Robotics, Machine Learning or a related technical field.
- You have a strong background in programming (Python, C++, matlab, etc), robotic control and usage of machine learning techniques.
- Experience with Linux and ROS / ROS2 framework is strongly preferred.
- You are familiar with modern software development workflows including git and Docker.
- English required and French a plus
- Valid Swiss or EU/EFTA work permit required
We offer
- A lab environment of multi-national researchers
- Access to a network of renowned scientists in their field
- Possibility of further training
