Mission

The Professor Courtine's laboratory at EPFL is offering a position for a Test Engineer to work on the development of neurorehabilitation therapies for patients with motor disabilities (spinal cord injury).

Our mission is to conceive and deploy innovative interventions to restore motor functions after central nervous system disorders, especially spinal cord injury, and to translate our findings into clinical applications capable of improving the quality of life for people with motor impairments.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Supporting .NeuroRestore researchers and clinicians at CHUV by verifying and validating robust software that contributes to various stages of therapy development (including: imagery, therapy optimisation, interface with the electrical stimulators, home use)
  • Ensuring medical grade software quality following industry best practices for patients' usage at home and for researchers in rehabilitation facilities
  • Designing, coding, and driving the automation of test suites across the software stack
  • Building and improving a hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test bench for systems interfacing with sensors and spinal cord stimulators
  • Defining and executing test strategies (unit, integration, system, regression) with a strong emphasis on traceability and reproducibility
  • Providing remote as well as on site support to researchers, clinicians and patients in using those tools and systems
  • Contributing to release testing, verification & validation documentation, and quality records in line with IEC 62304 or related standards
  • Working closely with software engineers to identify risks early and ensure meticulous, high-quality deliverables

Profile

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, from an accredited institution (or equivalent qualification)
  • 2 years of experience working as a test/software engineer, or equivalent experience
  • Comfortable writing code and building automated test frameworks (preferred languages: C#, Python, C, Rust)
  • Knowledge of IEC 62304 or related software lifecycle/quality standards
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing and interfacing with sensors/hardware
  • Good knowledge of software architectural patterns
  • Extra meticulous, detail-oriented, and committed to quality deliverables
  • Excellent team-working and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent project and time management skills combined with strong demonstrated organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Fluent in English. French and German are a plus.

 

It would be a plus to have:

  • Experience in regulated industries (medical, automotive, spatial, etc.)
  • Good knowledge of clinical trial documentation
  • Familiarity with test management tools and requirements traceability systems
