Postdoctoral position in RIVER Lab
Mission
The River Ecosystems Laboratory at the Alpine and Polar Environmental Research Center (ALPOLE) of the Swiss Institute of Science and Technology (EPFL) in Sion, Switzerland, seeks excellent candidates for a Postdoc position.
In the context of a new research project funded by the Swiss Science Foundation, the selected candidates will unravel the success of a dominant and most enigmatic alga in high-mountain streams. Despite being unicellular, this alga forms complex macroscale structures and it develops extensive blooms in highly oligotrophic waters.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Working and collaborating on research projects. The precise research topic(s) will be discussed with the successful candidate depending on their background, expertise and affinities

Profile
- PhD Degree in ecology, microbiology, biology or environmental sciences
- Good knowledge in aquatic ecosystems, microbial or algal ecology and physiology.
- Good understanding of theories and mastering of techniques related to molecular biology, genomics, ecological stoichiometry, microbial symbiosis and algal photobiology
- Demonstrated experience in bioinformatics, data analysis and quantitative methods; skills in imaging and experimental set-ups are additional assets
- Open-minded and enthusiastic towards collaborative research
- Ability for independent scientific work
- Fluency in both written and spoken English
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
